Fancy meeting the pigs on Koh Madsum? It's a short boat trip from the south of Koh Samui, and there are a few ways to make a day of it. Join a speedboat, take the catamaran or have a longtail to yourselves. You can even ride there on a guided jet ski safari.
Most boat trips also stop at Koh Tan for snorkelling. Others add an afternoon departure, a search for pink dolphins or time at a floating bar. Have a look at the tour comparison to see which one suits you, or start with the island guide if you're still deciding.
What's included in the day?
On the shared boat tours, hotel transfers, a guide and a meal are part of the package. The details vary, so check where you'll eat, which drinks are included and whether your hotel is in the pickup area.
A private charter works differently. The price covers your boat and captain, with transport, a guide and meals available as extras. Add what your group needs before comparing it with individual seats on a shared boat.
Bring cash for the island landing fee where it's listed. Most tours show THB 50 per adult, but children's charges and the jet ski fee need a separate check. Our prices page explains what to budget.
What does a Pig Island day look like?
First there's the journey to the pier, then the crossing from Samui. At Pig Island you can spend time on the beach, see the pigs and have a swim if conditions allow. The reef stop is at neighbouring Koh Tan, where the crew provides snorkelling equipment.
The order depends on your tour. The shared morning speedboat visits Pig Island first, while the sunset trip starts with Koh Tan. Meals may be served on the boat or back at a restaurant on Samui. Check the whole schedule, including your hotel transfer, before making plans for afterwards.
The jet ski safari is more about the ride, and the dolphin trips travel further towards the mainland. Pick the day you'd enjoy, then check the details.
Common questions
Pig Island is Koh Madsum, just off the south coast of Koh Samui, beside Koh Tan. Tours leave from piers such as Thong Krut and Bang Kao on Samui.
There is no scheduled public ferry. You can book a shared tour or arrange a private boat from Samui. The getting there guide explains the options.
Yes, but you'll need to reach Koh Samui first. Staying on Samui the night before gives you more room around the pickup time. Check your onward travel before trying to fit everything into one day.
